iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone Duo and iOS 27: Apple’s Fall 2026 Lineup, Explained

Fall is Apple’s busiest season, and 2026 is a big one. There’s a new iPhone 18 Pro, Apple’s first folding iPhone, a smarter Siri, and new home gadgets. Here’s what’s new, what the tech specs actually mean, and how to upgrade without losing a single photo. We wrote it in plain English for busy business owners and anyone who just wants their phone to work.

The New iPhones at a Glance

Apple announced its fall lineup on September 9, 2026. There are three new models:

ModelStarting price (256GB)AvailableBest for
iPhone 18 Pro$1,199Since Sept. 18Power users who want the best camera in a normal size
iPhone 18 Pro Max$1,299Since Sept. 18Big screen and the longest battery life
iPhone Duo (foldable)$1,999Pre-order Oct. 16, in stores Oct. 23Early adopters who want a phone that opens into a mini tablet

All three come with 256GB, 512GB, 1TB or 2TB of storage. The 2TB option is a first for iPhone. The Pro models cost $100 more than last year. Apple and others blame a worldwide shortage of memory chips for the increase.

iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max: Under the Hood

The A20 Pro chip

The A20 Pro is the “brain” of the phone, and it’s a real leap forward. It’s built on a 2-nanometer process. That means the transistors are smaller and packed more tightly, so you get more speed while using less power. Inside are:

  • 6-core CPU (the part that runs your apps), with built-in Neural Accelerators for AI work.
  • 7-core GPU (the graphics engine), up to 40% faster than last year’s A19 Pro.
  • Dual 16-core Neural Engine: 32 cores dedicated to AI, with double the AI horsepower of A19 Pro.
  • 50% more memory bandwidth, which means data moves to and from the chip faster.

Apple also moved the memory beside the chip instead of on top of it. That lets the chip sit directly on a redesigned vapor chamber, a thin cooling plate with three times the surface area of the one in the iPhone 17 Pro. In plain words, the phone stays cool and fast for longer. Apple says it can keep up 40% more performance during long sessions like gaming or video editing.

Camera

The headline feature is a new 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, a first for iPhone. Six laser-cut blades open and close like the iris of a real camera, from f/1.48 (wide open, great in dim light) to f/4 (keeps a whole group in focus). The phone adjusts this automatically. If you like to take control yourself, the new Pro controls let you set the aperture, shutter speed and white balance by hand, and show a histogram (a graph of how bright your shot is).

There’s also Apple Reference Image, an opt-in mode where the sensor digitally signs the photo it captures. That gives you an unaltered “digital negative” to prove a photo is real, which is handy for insurance claims, real estate listings and job-site documentation. Time-lapse now records in 4K Dolby Vision HDR, and you can add Cinematic (blurred-background) effects to video after you shoot it.

Battery and charging

iPhone 18 ProiPhone 18 Pro Max
Video playback (eSIM models)Up to 36 hoursUp to 45 hours
Fast chargingAbout 50% in 15 minutes wired, 50% in 30 minutes wireless5 minutes wired gives about 7 hours of video

Apple calls the Pro Max’s gain the biggest jump in battery life ever on an iPhone. To get the fastest wired charging, you need a 60W-capable USB-C cable and a compatible power adapter, both sold separately.

Connectivity and design

  • N1 wireless chip, designed by Apple: Wi-Fi 7 (the newest, fastest Wi-Fi), Bluetooth 6 and Thread (a smart-home standard).
  • C2 modem, Apple’s own 5G chip: faster uploads than the previous C1X, 15% less energy use, and now mmWave, the ultra-fast short-range 5G found in U.S. cities.
  • U.S. models are eSIM-only, meaning a digital SIM with no plastic card. The extra space goes to a bigger battery.
  • A smaller Dynamic Island (the pill at the top of the screen) that can now show three live updates at once, like a delivery, a timer and a sports score.
  • Four finishes: black, silver, glacier and an all-new burgundy. The enclosure uses 85% recycled aluminum.

iPhone Duo: Apple’s First Foldable

Folded, the Duo has a 5.4-inch outer screen. Open it up and you get a 7.6-inch inner OLED display (1878 x 2670 pixels, 430 pixels per inch) with an anti-glare nano-texture finish. Apple says it’s the thinnest iPhone ever when open. Both screens share the same shape, so apps simply scale up when you unfold it. It runs the same A20 Pro chip with a vapor chamber, has a titanium frame and hinge cover, two batteries, and Touch ID built into the side button. It also works with Apple Pencil.

For the camera, you get a 48MP Fusion Main (f/1.6, with an optical-quality 2x zoom) and a 48MP Ultra Wide, plus 4K video at 120 frames per second. Because you can use the rear cameras for selfies, you can take 48MP selfies. Apple rates battery life at up to 31 hours of video on the inner screen and 44 hours on the outer one.

iOS 27, Apple Intelligence and the New Siri

iOS 27 came out free on September 14. The big news is Siri AI, a completely rebuilt Siri, available in beta and in English to start. It understands your personal context, like your messages, emails and photos. It can also see what’s on your screen and act on it, and it answers far more general questions. Other highlights:

  • Photo tools like upgraded Clean Up, which removes distracting objects.
  • Safari’s Notify Me, which watches a web page for price drops or restocks.
  • Better parental controls and more ways to customize the Liquid Glass look.

Privacy comes first. Apple Intelligence handles as much as it can on the phone itself and uses Apple’s Private Cloud Compute for heavier tasks. Some cloud-based features have daily usage limits.

Everything Else Apple Released

  • Apple Watch Series 12 (from $399) and Apple Watch Ultra 4 (from $799).
  • AirPods 5: $129, or $149 with a wireless charging case.
  • Mac mini with the new M6 and M5 Pro chips, and Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra. Both have been available since September 22.
  • Apple HomeView ($299), a smart-home hub with a screen. There’s also a new Apple TV 4K with Siri AI and hands-free voice control, and a new HomePod mini. All were announced October 13.
  • Coming soon (rumored): MacRumors and Bloomberg report that touchscreen OLED MacBook Pros, an M6 iMac and an OLED iPad mini could arrive around October 27. Apple hasn’t confirmed this yet.

Should You Upgrade?

  • iPhone 14 or older: Yes. You’ll notice big gains in speed, battery and camera, plus the new Siri AI.
  • iPhone 16 or 17: Your phone is still great. Upgrade if you want the camera or the battery life.
  • Business owners: The Pro Max’s battery and Reference Image make it a solid tool for the field.
  • Seniors: Bigger, brighter screens and a Siri that actually understands you can make everyday tasks easier.

Upgrade Tips From Our Technicians

  • Back up first. Run an iCloud backup or back up to your computer before you trade in anything.
  • Use Quick Start. Set the old phone next to the new one and your apps, photos and settings move over wirelessly.
  • Trade in smart. Apple offers $175 to $885 in credit for an iPhone 13 or later, and carriers offer up to $1,200 when you trade in an iPhone 14 or later. Sign out of iCloud and erase the old phone before you hand it over.
  • Lock it down. Turn on Face ID or Touch ID, two-factor authentication and Stolen Device Protection, and install iOS updates promptly.
